Summer Program

Keep your kids physically active and creatively engaged with Summer Half or Full Day Performing Arts camps and Intermediate or Advanced Intensive camps. These summer dance camps for ages 4-18 encourage dancers to polish Ballet technique while exploring new genres like Theater Dance, Contemporary Dance, Pilates, and Choreography. There is an informal studio showing at the end of week-long programs. Early Childhood dance class camps for ages 2.5-6 and Adult/Teen Ballet classes are also available at our Old City location.

Summer 2020 Schedule

June Virtual Half-Day Dance Intensive

WHEN: Monday – Friday 9a – 1p

CURRICULUM:  Classes will follow our diverse summer intensive curriculum which includes: Pilates, Ballet, Contemporary, Theater Dance and the opportunity to create their own student choreography.  Classes have been slightly abbreviated for the virtual format.

DAILY SCHEDULE:

9:00-9:15 Morning Welcome/Check-in

9:15-9:45 Pilates

11:00-11:45 Theater Dance

11:45-12:30 Contemporary/Choreography

12:30-1:00 Closing Connection and Reflection

SOCIALIZATION:  One incredibly valuable part of the intensive and dance in general, is the community that it creates.  While these connections are typically integrated into the creative and instructional process, in a virtual program, we would carve out time specifically for that purpose.  For best audio quality, most classes are done with students on mute for the majority of a virtual dance class.  Time for the dancers to connect with each other is built into the schedule in a morning welcome/check-in, a snack break/social game in which the “meeting” would continue to stay live so dancers could connect, and a connection/reflection at the end of the day.

PERFORMANCE:  The Half-Day Intensive camp will culminate in a dance video of work learned and created during the course of the week.  Families would submit videos of their students to us by Thursday evening so they can be made into a compilation video on Friday.

COST:  $250/week for virtual program

WHAT YOUR DANCER WILL NEED:

  • A high-speed internet connection

VIRTUAL/IN-STUDIO: If Pennsylvania were in the Green Phase of reopening AND we felt we could meet the CDC recommendations for safe operations, we would consider transitioning to in-studio classes.  We would still continue to livestream the program even in the event we were able to hold to in-studio classes.  This would allow students to continue with the camp if they were not able or not interested in attending in-studio classes.  For the virtual camp, dancers will only login to one link for the program.  We will use that same link everyday.

VIRTUAL/IN-STUDIO:

If Pennsylvania were in the Green Phase of reopening AND we felt we could meet the CDC recommendations for safe operations, we would consider transitioning to in-studio classes.  If we transition to an in-studio program, we would likely adjust the length of classes  to a more traditional format i.e 60 – 120 minute classes and extend the day to 10a – 4p.   The price of the program would be prorated to reflect the change in program length.

We would continue to livestream the camp even in the event we were able to hold in-studio classes.  This would allow students to continue with the camp if they were not able or not interested in attending in-studio classes.  For the virtual program, dancers would only login to one link for the program.  We will use that same link everyday.

PERFORMANCE:

The Intermediate/Advanced Intensive camp will culminate in a dance video of original student work, classical variations, and theater dance choreography.  Students could opt to schedule studio time to film their classical variation and original choreography in the PDA studio with a family member but this would not be required.

If we transition to an in-studio camp, we would film the choreography during the scheduled program time on the last day.  Dancers who are participating virtually would submit videos through the Google Drive.  They could schedule a time to use the studio or film from a different location.  We will not hold an in-studio performance at the end of the program.

SOCIALIZATION:

One incredibly valuable part of the intensive and dance in general, is the community that it creates.  While these connections are typically integrated into the creative and instructional process, for a virtual program, we  have built in time for the dancers to connect with each other and teachers during the following:

Morning welcome/check-in 10:00-11:00a
